About Pikin Bizness
The term "Pikin Bizness" is from the local Krio dialect, which translates to Children's Business. In other words the organization’s object is to manage the affairs and welfare of children. That is seeking the welfare, facilitating arrangements for healthcare, education, and to create opportunities for them to enjoy their childhood.
Pikin Bizness work to support children by providing economic and educational support to the child survivors of the of the post conflict period in Sierra Leone.Pikin Bizness focuses its activities on children, who have the greatest capacity to transcend the conflict of their communities and to bring about change in the future.
These children within the society offer the best hope for change, and are increasingly amongst the most vulnerable in conflict situations.
The work to bring smiles and hope to children in Sierra Leone is quite challenging. However, for the first three (3) years of Pikin Bizness, the organization has been able to do so through the help of various organizations.In those three years, Caritas Makeni, a Catholic NGO; International MedicalCorp (IMC) and other NGOs helped identify some children for Pikin Bizness to send a smile and a hope.
In collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP); the US Embassy in Sierra Leone and UNAMSIL and with sponsorship from DSTV-SL, a helicopter was used to fly around thecountry during the Christmas holidays, distributing Christmas gifts to children. These gifts included: candy, drinks, portable radios, schoolbags, and school supplies.
For three years this was a very rewarding project for a growing organization for it brought so much hope to so many children, who gazed in admiration as the helicopter landed in their villages just for them, rather than seeing the usual sight of soldiers running around.
